Arsenal's badge changed along with the club name, as the club went through various psychological states of trying to establish itself north of the river, and then reigniting its relationship with its origins.

When Arsenal moved in 1913 from a ground near the home of the armaments factory to north London they wanted to establish themselves as relevant to north Londoners. The immediately changed the name of the club to The Arsenal, and the badge. The relationship with the Gunners came back slowly.

You can see one of their early badges at blog.woolwicharsenal.co.uk and you can read about the events that led to the takeover of the bankrupt club and the move north in "Making the Arsenal" which is described at woolwicharsenal.co.uk
